Captain’s Log, Day 316 (11th Nov 2024, pos.: 52°56′N 4°45′E )
Somewhere off the Coast of Curiosity…
“Ahoy, landlubbers and free spirits!
Captain JayR here, keeping an eye on the horizon of chaos.”
You may be wondering, "Who is behind Maverick's Cove?" since this new Substack appeared behind the horizon two weeks ago.
Allow me to introduce myself as the initiator of this “safe haven”, for Free Spirits & Creative Rebels. - If you’re curious about what we’re all about, I encourage you to check out the FAQ section. And if you are a person who prefers the audio format feel free to listen into the podcast “Explore Maverick’s Cove” to see if the supportive environment of this community fits with your own needs.
Having lived on this planet for over six decades, I believe it’s time to clear the mental clutter that can weigh us down worldwide.
Before COVID, I embraced a transformative life at sea aboard my wooden two-master. - What remains now? A digital library, thanks to Spotify, SoundCloud, Kindle Publishing and Audible —no burdensome collections of books or records to hold me back.
As the owner of a new (slow) fashion & positive brand (PoM - Peace of Mind … Happy Life!), I advocate for simplicity—just a few essential pieces of clothing. I aim to demonstrate that it is possible to thrive while adhering to the principles of slow fashion and a circular economy.
Before I dive into a flood of writing with tidal up’s & down’s, let’s return to that initial goal: decluttering the mind.
I like to invite you to vote about six topics I have to offer, for now.
What resonates with you most ? - Once I see your preferences, I’ll start writing. - Give it a short thought!
GROUP A: OUTER WORLD …
(A) Living Without National Identity:
I’ve never felt a strong emotional need for national belonging. Growing up in Central Europe with Polish roots, I’ve always seen myself as a citizen of Mother Earth. Interested in how this mindset can enrich your perspective? - Pick (A)!
(B) Critical Thinking Against Biased Politics, Religion, and Media:
I provocatively assert that “95% of democracies are hypocritical lies.” How can we cultivate critical thinking and resilience? If you’re ready to engage with these topics and become a peaceful warrior, click (B).
(C) Vision for the Future: Community Over Globalization.
Inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s insights (later about why Tagore as one of the last universal genius on this planet), let’s explore the importance of community-oriented living and creating peaceful neighborhoods.
GROUP B: INNER WORLD …
(A) Simplicity and Slowness = Freedom + Sustainability:
As a sailor with 47 years of experience, I’ve witnessed the power of nature and its positive impact on our well-being. Want to read insights from a Captain’s Log? - Vote for (A).
(B) Positivity as a Foundation for Exploration:
Having battled cancer at 25, I can share techniques and habits to minimize stress and navigate modern challenges and how to develop new perspectives for a fulfilling life !
(C) Listening … Be present in the moment here and now:
As radio presenter with educational formats about music therapeutical formats I appreciate the power of well-trained Ears. In our increasingly noisy world, both externally and internally, the ability to listen mindfully is more important than ever.
As someone gifted with highly sensitive hearing, I've leveraged this skill in my work as a cultural journalist, focusing on the educational benefits of music and its therapeutic effects.
In this segment, we will explore how we can train ourselves to listen more carefully—to ourselves, to others, and to the present moment. I’ll share techniques and principles that can enhance your listening skills, fostering deeper connections and mindfulness. - Vote for (C) if this resonates with you!
Why do I address these topics in Group A (outer world) and B (inner world) ?
Our planet seems increasingly chaotic, particularly over the last 20 years. You can read my article about the Global (Mental Health) Crisis linked with World Mental Health Day 2024 (annual, 10th October).
I believe each of the upper named topics can support us to achieve mental clarity, inner peace, and a sense of purpose. I don’t claim to have all the answers; I’m wary of those self-proclaimed wisdom keepers.
Instead, I subscribe to the philosophy of knowledge sharing—“Sharing is caring.” We can all learn from each other and you are invited to be part it.
Take some seconds please and answer following poll, part 1 and 2:
Substack doesn’t allow an open question field. so please post in the comment (see bottom) if you’d be interested in a very different topic or send me a direct message.
Hint: Here at Maverick’s Cove (and elsewhere) I’m interested in concrete ideas and solutions, not just abstract thoughts. Out there is enough noisy nonsense.
For instance, if your community struggles with gun violence, what specific actions can we take?
If the quality of education is lacking, how can we address that?
The poll will run through November, and I’ll be observing your interests closely. When I see a clear trend, I’ll begin crafting articles to spark meaningful discussions and, most importantly, work towards tangible solutions.
Let me acknowledge that provocation or “black humour” is a part of my communication style. Sometimes, we must embrace our warrior spirit, isn’t ?! - There are moments when peaceful dialogue isn’t enough; we need to take action as a Buccaneer on our own Ship of Life (see poem by John T. Baker at the bottom).
Thank you for your time! - I look forward to embarking on this journey sailing through life together.
Your Captain
